Our values, vision, mission, aims
Our values as an organisation and as a network
We believe people should be in control of their services and able to pursue ordinary,
valued lives within their chosen families, relationships and communities.
SharedLivesPlus values care and support which:
· is built around individuals: developing their strengths, gifts
and potential;
· promotes equality and diversity;
· is safe but also enables people to take risks in pursuit of
their goals;
· is cost-effective, with consistently better outcomes than alternatives.
SharedLivesPlus itself:
· promotes equality and values diversity;
· aims to feel like a good place to work for all its workers and
volunteers, where everyone can contribute something
valuable to our work and to be treated with respect and recognition
in return;
· is led by its members as it seeks to achieve the goals outlined
above for people who use care or support services;
· looks for ways for members to support each other and to contribute
their expertise;
The objects of SharedLivesPlus, as set out in the Memorandum and Articles of Association are:
To assist and relieve the needs of disabled people and people who are vulnerable
by reason of their age or infirmity in relation to their accommodation, care and
support.
A charity’s objects are its commitment under charity law and are usually broadly
expressed and give it room to develop and grow.
From our objects and our values as an organisation, we derive our Vision, Mission
and Aims. Here is an illustration of how an organisation’s Vision, Mission and
Aims fit together and guide its work:
Our vision is:
A world where people are supported to pursue ordinary lives within the families
and relationships of their choice, feeling that they belong and making a full
contribution to their community.
Our mission is:
To develop small-scale, community- and family-based services, built around individuals’
wishes, needs and gifts, such as Shared Lives, Homeshare and micro-enterprises.
Our Strategic Aims:
- Membership of SharedLivesPlus and the support we offer is central to the quality and development of our
members’ work.
- The work of SharedLivesPlus and its members will be widely recognised as a crucial part of the future
of a sustainable and personalised care and support system.
- SharedLivesPlus and its members will influence the issues which matter most to members and
people who use their services, at national and local level.
- SharedLivesPlus is an increasingly effective organisation with a secure future and is a
good place to work.
